IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?
When David fought Goliath
-He was still a youth
-Anointed yet not ascended
-Or even known past Samuel and David’s family
-David came to the battle to bring food to his three older brothers and to find how they fared as called for by his father
-He came upon a fearful and disheartened army
-Goliath was mocking Israel
-For 40 days Goliath challenged Israel to send a champion to fight him
-Beat him, the Philistines would serve Israel
-Lose, Israel would have to submit to the Philistines
-Standing 9 foot 9 inches and very strong, he seemed unbeatable
-For 40 days, David’s brothers cowered in fear
-For 40 days, Israel felt their future was lost
-For 40 days, a heathen mocked all of God’s people
Now David hears of the enemy of God’s people
-He knew the power of the living God
-He believed in the empowerment of the living God
-In faith, he stood in the power of the living God
-A youth showing strength when battle trained veterans shrank in fear
-Listen to David’s response to a worldly challenge of God’s power
1 SAMUEL 17:26-29
PRAYER
King Saul doubted David’s ability as Goliath was a trained and experienced soldier while David was a mere youth and shepherd boy
-David proved his courage as he discussed killing a lion and a bear with his bare hands
-With no other man willing to face Goliath
-With no other path of victory available
-With all Israel cowering in fear
-David stood up and Saul provided David with armour
-But David had never practiced, or proved the armour, so he refused it
-He killed a bear and a lion with no armour
-He would face this heathen, blasphemous bear of a man with no armour save a faith that God would deliver him
Goliath had proved his armour, and it was impressive –1 SAMUEL 17:4-8
-Adam Clark tells us the coat of mail weighed 156 pounds
-The spear weighed about 19 pounds
-I couldn’t even carry Goliath’s armour and weapons
-Yet he fought effectively wearing it
-In a worldly sense
-David had no chance against such a mountain of a man
-But he had faith in his God, the only armour he needed
Think of the unbelievable scene here
-Goliath, heavily armoured with a huge spear and sword
-David with 5 smooth stones, a sling, a shepherd’s bag and no sword or armour
-Goliath actually felt insulted
-But David had a cause and pursued it – 1 SAMUEL 17:41-52
David saw the cause
-Stand against God’s enemies
David answered the call
-Defeat God’s enemy
David gave the glory to God
-Coming in the name of the Lord of hosts to show all there was a God in Israel
David provides the victory and the fearful were strengthened and followed him
-The odds were against him
-The world doubted him
-His family rebuked him
-Yet he saw there was a cause
-To paraphrase President Obama
-Goliath is dead and Israel is alive
The King Sauls of the church will provide us with the modern armour of politics
-Talk about armour we haven’t proved!
-We need to return to the armour that made our country was great
-A God to follow who blessed us for our faith
-The armour that the ill-equipped colonies as David slew the Goliath of King George’s well trained army
-The armour of EPHESIANS 6:14-17
-Girding of truth
-Breastplate of righteousness
-Feet shod with the Gospel
-Shield of faith
-Helmet of salvation
-Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God
-The world laughs
-But one day, all Goliaths will be put down
-Until then, choose your cause
I. IS THERE NOT A CAUSE
The justice department is seeking to overturn a NC law which will effectively make every bathroom in the USA gender-neutral
-Which means a 60-year-old pervert wearing a dress, lipstick and a 3-day growth of beard can call himself a woman and follow your 6-year-old daughter into a bathroom
-Worse, if they have their way, the same pervert can follow your 16- year old daughter into the public shower
-This pervert is not a woman trapped in a man’s body
-Jesus said in MATTHEW 19:4 – Have ye not heard, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female
-I’m not the brightest bulb in the box, but I can use my fingers and count the number of genders God made – TWO
-Not the 56 Facebook counts
-Lest you think this is a local problem, Pres Obama said Friday – a school MAY provide separate facilities on the basis of sex, but must allow transgender students access to such facilities consistent with their gender identity
-Loretta Lynch said this was needed as it is good not to discriminate
-Has she not read ISAIAH 5:20 – Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil
-And in verse 21 – Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes
-This gender confused Goliath is mighty in this government armor
-He has the courts, laws and schools as swords
-Yet God gives us smooth stones to attack
-Is there not a cause!
Related to this is gay marriage
-Courts have mandated it and churches are open and affirming accepting it even as the Bible calls homosexuality an abomination
-This pink armoured Goliath threatens jail and bankruptcy to all who resist
-Woe to him, he will fall, pick up your stones
-Is there not a cause
Abortion is rampant, the miracle of life called by feminists a few cancerous cells to be removed from a woman’s body for convenience
-Our entertainment is a cesspool of sin and degradation
-Our government rewards sloth with welfare and punished work with taxes and regulations
-Have they not read 2 THESSALONIANS 3:10 – if any would not work, neither should he eat
-Our elections are a joke with candidates mocking Christian attitudes with vile speech and attacks while promising bread and circuses to amuse the sinful appetites of voters
-We see a whole array of will-armoured Goliaths
-Look, there are smooth stones
-Is there not a cause?
Christ is not allowed in our schools, yet they openly teach the 5 pillars of Islam
-And force girls to wear hijabs and all to pray to Allah
-Christian, fear not these Goliaths
-Pick up your stones, there is a cause!
II. ANSWER THE CALL
Most Christians are satisfied behind closed doors
-Romans 1 is here, the reprobate mind is obvious
-Goliath’s hands have been strengthened
-All is lost, let us hide and avoid any negative consequences in this negative time
-Plenty of smooth stones, but against Goliath?
-Who will answer the call?
Goliath truly is powerful in a fleshly sense
-In the flesh, he is truly unbeatable
-Against him, we may be jailed, bankrupted or martyred
-But our victory is assured, our God is sovereign and our weapons are spiritual – 2 CORINTHIANS 10:3-6
-Goliath acts invincible as he mocks God and his followers
-Against him, only a few small stones
-What is a Christian to do?
–JUDE 3 tells us to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints
-Standing fast as a living sacrifice as called in ROMANS 12:1
-We may suffer loss, but obtain the ultimate victory
-Every Goliath will fall by your smooth stone, or another’s if you fail to answer your call
–ROMANS 12:19 says Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord
-What do our smooth stones do?
–ROMANS 8:33-39
-He has given us everything including smooth stones
-Should we not pick them up and see Goliath fall?
What are our weapons?
-Prayer
-Jesus prayed more than any man as he became the conqueror
-If He had to pray as the cornerstone, do you not think that His small smooth stones would have to pray?
-Pray for our leaders, others for salvation and that God’s will is done
-Even for our enemies as Jesus said in MATTHEW 5:44
–Proclamation
-Inform leaders when they transgress God’s law as Nathan did when David sinned with Bathsheba and murdered Uriah the Hittite
-Saying “Thou art the man”
-Reprove, rebuke, correct and instruct as called for in 2 TIMOTHY 3:16
-Stand fast and be ready – MARK 13:9-11
-Be the branch with a small stone, give God the glory!
Goliath’s armor is getting stronger and more corrupt
-Our smooth stones seem to be getting smaller
-Yet, there is a cause
-Will you pick them up and proclaim Christ to a lost and dying world as the Apostles did?
-Or cower like Israel to stay safe
III. GIVE GLORY TO GOD
We know Christ is the vine and we are the branches
-Fruit comes to the vine fed by the branches
-But if we try to take glory for ourselves, we separate from the vine and die
-Our branch will crunch below the foot of Goliath
Why do we pick up the stones?
-Not for pride, profit or power
-But to give glory to God
-To show a reprobate mind the mind of Christ
-To use His power to obtain His victory
-To show there is a God in Claremont and Newport
David did not say he would defeat Goliath by his own power as he did a lion and a bear
-But that he came not with sword and shield, but in the name of the of hosts whom thou hast defied
-He boldly proclaimed that he would smite Goliath
-Why? – That all would know there is a God in Israel
-Listen to verse 47 – and all this assembly shall know that the Lord servest not with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, he will give you into our hands
-He felled Goliath by the power of the God he glorified
-He had to use Goliath’s sword to behead him as he lacked one
God is sovereign
-His will is done
-He calls for people of faith to accomplish His will for His glory
-As He asked in LUKE 18:8 – Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
-You can answer the question
-Faithfully follow Him providing treasures in Heaven
-Even as you might lose all in this life
-Goliaths are surrounding us
-Goliaths are advancing on every front
-Goliaths threaten to destroy all who stand in their way
-All we have are a few small stones
-Will you see Goliath and cower like Israel
-Or will you pick up some smooth stones and advance on Goliath like David?
-Is there not a cause?
-Will Jesus find faith?
-Have faith and pick them up and answer His question
CONCLUSION
Goliath has been cloned and is being seen everywhere
-His weapons are impressive and loud, but totally ineffective as the battle is spiritual and he is carnal
-Will we act like David who asked who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?
-Or will we stand by the sidelines and look for a David to pick up the stones for us?
There are many Goliaths requiring many Davids to pick up stones
-With many different types of Goliaths advancing
-We need many different Davids from each branch of the military
-We need the Navy to patrol the seas of humanity
-Protecting the borders of righteousness
-Bringing God’s power to bear to areas as needed
-NC for instance as it is beyond our borders but will affect us
-We need the Marines to beat back the attacking hordes
-Going straight to politicians, town meetings, congressional offices or even the White House
-With prayer then saying “Thou art the man” to those who transgress God’s law
-We need infantry to hold ground
-Mary helped close down a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Fairbanks by protesting and picketing
-Others may be seen street preaching, standing with those attacked by reprobate governments, violating carnal laws that violate God’s spiritual laws
-We need the Air Force to quickly bring God’s truth to the enemy
-Writing letters of support to those who proclaim and keep God’s commands
-Writing letters to rebuke politicians who violate God’s laws
-Writing letters to ask for laws to protect Christians and righteousness in the USA
-Writing letters to the editor to proclaim God’s ways to a lost and dying world
If we are to pick up our stones
-We must pick them up to defeat Christ’s enemies for Christ’s glory
-Not for our benefit, but to show the reprobate world there is a God in Newport and Claremont
-We must have the faith Christ is looking for at His return
-We must have His strength, His wisdom, His power and His righteousness
-This can only come by prayer as Christ brings us spiritual weapons to overcome carnal attacks
Goliath will bruise the seed of the woman’s heel
-But as he bruises our body, let us pick up Christ’s stones that by His power we will be used for His glory to help crush the serpent’s head
Is there not a cause?
-Let us not cower on the sidelines
-Determine which stones you can pick up and let Christ empower your sling that you can see a mighty Goliath fall by His overwhelming power
